Zhang Lei is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Landscape Architecture and Institute of Architectural History and Theory at Architecture School of Tianjin University. Her research interests include cultural landscape study, focused on flood adaptive pond landscape in traditional cities of north China, the history of Chinese modern landscape architecture and cultural heritage preservation.
Zhang Lei graduated in 2001 from Tianjin University, and received her master and doctoral degrees in Landscape Architecture and Human Geography from Peking University in 2004 and 2009. She studied in College of Environmental Design at UC Berkeley as visiting scholar in 2016 and 2017.
