The Institute of Digital Design and Fabrication was formally established in 2013 to explore the integration of computer technologies into architectural design and fabrication methods with the aim of achieving more intelligent, precise and individualized projects.
Our digital design experimental facility includes a teaching area and research office, a digital fabrication laboratory, and a robot numerical-control fabrication laboratory, with an overall floor space of 550 m2. We are equipped with a three-dimensional graphics workstation, network server, virtual reality environment, 3D printers, a computer numerical-control (CNC) machine, KUKA robotic arms, laser-cutting machines, self-assembled drones, and more.
The main focus of our teaching includes the following topics: parametric architectural design, interactive architecture, building information modelling (BIM), virtual & augmented reality, big-data visualization & analysis, intelligent construction, etc. In summary, this field is divided into three main research directions:
(1)Computational Design and Intelligent Construction;
(2)Interactive Design and Media Representation;
(3)Building Information Modeling (BIM).
