The Department of Architecture offers two main degree programs, namely an academic Master of Science in Architecture and a professional Master of Architecture. The main academic program is then subdivided into three specialized master programs for second-grade disciplines: Architectural Design & Theory, Architectural History & Theory, and Architectural Technology & Science.
Overall Objectives
Master of Architecture program: in line with NAPEA and the Certification System for Professional Architects (licensed/chartered architect), this program is designed to prepare our students for becoming leading talents in the industry, with a clear understanding of both domestic and foreign architectural contexts. It provides students with the necessary knowledge and practice opportunities to produce work of professional quality, develop critical thinking skills, and foster a spirit of innovative design and research.
Master of Science in Architecture program: this program aims to provide the necessary training and education for producing professional, high-quality researchers in the discipline of Engineering, who are attuned to major societal needs, can adequately respond to the requirements of national development strategies, and work towards producing cutting-edge developments. Students who complete the Master of Engineering program are expected to operate successfully in the Chinese context while maintaining full awareness of new technical or technological developments in foreign countries. In addition, they shall be well-versed in theoretical knowledge, critical thinking skills, and academic research skills in all areas of innovation.
Admissions
The admission of postgraduate students happens through the following three channels:
(1) by recommendation for exemption from exams;
(2) by participating in the general examination;
(3) by accepting international student applications.
Recommendation for exemption from exams is an important channel for enrolling postgraduate students. It is usually conducted in two ways:
(A) the university sets up special tutor groups to select outstanding students from top-level universities, or students from other key universities who were ranked as grade A- and above in the latest round of national subject evaluations;
(B) the second way is to admit students from key universities by interviewing them in advance.
Regarding the second admission channel (general examination), applicants need to take the National Postgraduate Entrance Examination. Those who meet the required re-examination scores and are successful in their interviews can be selected as qualified students.
As for the admission of international students, they must submit their resumes and application forms to a list of schools and universities of their choosing, after which they must successfully pass an internal review conducted by our university.
