Teaching areas: Urban planning and design studios, Residential behaviors and residential space: the socio-spatial perspective
Fengying Yan is a professor in the Department of Urban and Rural Planning at the School of Architecture, Tianjin University. She is also the director of the studio of urban housing and residential development, a main research institution in the School of Architecture which conducts researches and designs aimed at understanding the essential issues of urban planning and making sustainable urban environments in China.
Professor Yan’s research work focuses on four areas, planning theories and methods under low carbon and sustainable perspectives, urbanization and residential planning, urban safety and disaster prevention planning, and planning methods in the new data environment. She currently conducts The Research on Urban and Rural Planning Methods at County Level Based on Carbon Control System, a national key research and development plan project. The purpose of this project is to improve the living environment in Chinese counties and present the spatial planning theory of carbon emission reduction based on carbon control systems under multidisciplinary perspectives.
Professor Yan is a member of the American Institute of Architects and a director of the Tianjin Urban Planning Academy. Her design projects include rural planning, residential planning, ecological spatial planning and architecture designs, all of which are located in several provinces in China.
She has a Ph.D. in regional planning, a Master and a Bachelor of architecture qualification from Tianjin University. She was also a visiting scholar at the University of California San Diego between 2003 and 2004, and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign between 2011 and 2012.
