Zhao Nadong is an Associate Professor of the Department of Architecture at the School of Architecture, Tianjin University. Her research mainly focuses on Layout and Spatial Structure of Chinese Buddhist Architecture from the 5th to 15th century, and New Methods and Tools of Green Building Design Aimed a Goals and Effects. She teaches the design studio on ‘Green Buildings’, with climate-feedback and energy-conservation design strategies. Her recent research projects are on Buddhist Grottoes along the Silk Road and Spatial Pattern and Formation Logic of Chinese Buddhist Monasteries from the 5th to 9th Century, and the undergraduate-oriented teaching method of green building design.
Dr Nadong obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Architecture from Tianjin University and thereafter received her Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture degree from Tsinghua University. She studied at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) from 2011-2012 as a joint-training Ph.D. student. Prior to joining Tianjin University, Dr Nadong worked as a senior architect and was also a Class A Registered Architect in BIAD. Her professional accomplishments include completing multiple Olympics 2008 projects where she presided over or was in the role of lead architecture engineer.
