Yang Hongwei is a faculty at the School of Architecture, Tianjin University. She has around 10 years’
experience in research about green building design and green building retrofit, by means of
performance simulation and optimization algorithms. She teaches design class in a green building
studio for senior undergraduate students, with concerns about climate-responsive and resourceconservation
design approaches. Her seminar course ‘Built environment and sustainability’
introduces the theories and analytical methods of the environmental, economic, and social-cultural
sustainable issues at the early design stage.
Yang holds a professional Master’s Degree in Architecture and a Doctor of Engineering from Tianjin
University. She worked at the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University in 2013 as a shortterm
visiting fellow, where she started her research topic on green building retrofit. She won the
program of the Natural Science Foundation as well as the Provincial Science Foundation in recent 5
years.
Yang is the author of Performance-based Design and Prediction for Green Retrofit(2019)and
Object-oriented Green Building Design Guidelines for the Early Stages (2021), and published more
than 20 papers in various academic journals.
