Short Introduction
Yang Wei is a Professor at School of Architecture, Tianjin University. She is currently serving as Vice Dean(Foreign Affairs) and Director for International Cooperation of the school. Her main research field is building life cycle assessment and design, and the sustainable evolution of the built environment. She is teaching the design studio on ‘building in life cycle’, which concerns the sustainability of the built environment, especially the climate responsive and resource conservation design strategies. Her seminar course (taught in English) on ‘Built environment in a Resource Conservation Perspective’ introduces the theories and analytical methods of the environmental, economic and social-cultural issues during the evolution of the urban building stocks. She is also teaching an undergraduate course on “Advanced Architectural Design and Technologies”, in which the latest achievements in the integrated architectural design and technology are introduced. Since 2019, she had been teaching a practical course on ‘Rural Revitalization with Construction”, and had led the team to build the Xiamutang Children’s restaurant in 2019, which won the 1st prize in the Asia Edition of the Young Talent Architecture Award (YTAA); and had led the TEAM Tianjin U+ to built the R-CELLS zero carbon solar house in the Zhangbei County in north China in Sept. 2021, which will compete in the 3rd China Solar Decathlon in June 2022.
Her recent research projects are on the integration of BIM, LCA, LCC with the design process, and the parametric design methods and tools to optimize building life cycle performances. She had also done projects on China’s national building stock, urban housing stocks and urban fragments. She is leading a research group on ‘carbon neutral building design, construction and operation’, and organizes 3 younger associate professors and several PhD and master students in the research, teaching and practice in this field.
Yang Wei hold the professional Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Architecture and the Doctor of Engineering from Tianjin University. She studied at Karlsruhe University (KIT) from 2003-2005 as an exchanging PhD student, where she started her research topic on building LCA and building stocks. She had revisited Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in 2009 and 2018, and visited ETH Zurich in 2010 as a guest researcher.
