Research: Aesthetic thought of Chinese classical gardens, Architectural culture comparison between China and Japan
LIU Tongtong is a Professor on landscape architecture of School of Architecture, Tianjin University. She also serves as a member of history and theory committee in Chinese landscape architecture society. She pursues her research on history and aesthetic theory on Chinese classic gardens and landscape, comparison of architectural culture between China and Japan, residential problem and environmental design. Her research interests concentrate on influence of Confucian and other ancient thoughts during the history of Chinese gardens development. It is under the influence of these ancient thoughts, gardens show unique spatial images and artistic conception, and become the external symbol of spiritual pursuit in ancient China. In addition, she also pays attention to study on the inheritance and innovation of traditional culture and the comparison between China and Japan in the field of architecture and traditional gardens.
Prof. LIU Tongtong holds the Doctor, Master and Bachelor’s degree of Engineering in Tianjin University. She also got her PhD in Architectural Engineering from Osaka University, Japan. She had revisited Osaka University in 2014 as a guest researcher. She had been coaching students to win the international or domestic architectural design competition awards for many times. As the project manager, she undertook the Art Research Program of the National Social Science Foundation of China "Academic History Research of Chinese Classical Garden". And she participated in a number of scientific research projects, such as NSFC and NSSFC.
