Dai Lu is a Professor of Architecture, at the School of Architecture of Tianjin University. Her main research field is the history and theoretical research of modern Chinese architecture, the dynamic tracking of modern Chinese architecture, the protection of Chinese architectural heritage in the 20th century, and the study of regional architectural culture. She teaches undergraduate architectural design courses and the thematic design ‘Modern Deduction of Classical Gardens’ in the University, with a focus on the modernization of traditional architectural culture and exploring its potential characteristics and inner spirit. She also teaches postgraduate academic research courses ‘Modern Chinese Architecture’ and ‘Indian architecture’. She is an expert member of the 20th century Architectural Heritage Committee. Her recent research projects are on the protection and utilization of Chinese architectural heritage in the 20th century, the conflict and reconstruction of Chinese architectural culture form in the period of social transition. She has also worked on projects focusing on the creation and theory research of contemporary Chinese architects.
Dr Lu obtained her professional qualifications from Tianjin University, namely her Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Architecture as well as the Doctor of Engineering degree. She studied at Iowa State University (ISU) from 2010-2011 as a visiting scholar, where she started her research topic on design cognition.
