In the 20th National Dashi Award competition, two groups of students directed by Dr.Wang He from the School of Architecture won two gold medals.

The "Dashi Award" started in 1997 and was initiated by Mr. Lin Jiayang, the deputy director of the Design Studies and Education Commission and a scholar in Germany. So far it has been running for 20 sessions. The competition insists on serving companies from home and abroad and major international events such as the Olympics and World Expos. It is a competition with more entries, longer duration, higher level of judges and more influence in comparison with its counterparts in China. The total number of submissions this year was 13,110, divided into seven tracks. After a rigorous review, 623 works entered the semi-finals, and 7 coursework guided by Mr. Wang were selected.
The "Pastoral Facility Art" track debuting in this year's "Dashi Award" focuses on the expression of modern pastoral ideas with more emphasis on ecological civilization and public awareness. The award-winning work "Floating Language•Porcelain Heard" is based on Fuliang porcelain culture, inspired by wind and water. This work attaches great importance to on-site processing and construction, and adopts easy-to-process, easy-to-build profiles and modeling logic. It was highly praised by the judges, and was tied for the gold medal with works from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, China Academy of Art, Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, Nanjing Forestry University and other colleges and universities.
Flotage Whispering•Chinaware Listening
"Fuliang Ecological Tea Experience Station" focused on ecological attributes and traditional cultural heritage and won the gold medal against works from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts and Nanjing Forestry College. It is the only gold award in the environmental art track.

The three other semi-finalists embodied the exploration of using modern public art design to express the heritage of Chinese traditional culture. From top to bottom: "Sea of Porcelain" (Xie Jiahao Di Nara) ;"Floating Broken Porcelain" (Ma Mingze Wang) Han); "Floating Dream" (Li Yang Cai Dingxia).
“Nowadays, the installation art design has gradually become a new category of major design competitions. Traditional environmental art design also embraces the integration of public art,” said Dr. Wang He. Seven of the TJU works that entered the final of the Dashi award are created during two courses taught by Wang He.
