Feb. 25 | AIA Beijing | Monthly Happy Hour + Talk (HH+T):
Wood Architecture & Sustainability
Our Monthly Happy Hour + Talk (HH + T) is an interactive social forum, aimed at gathering everyone together to share a drink and talk about architecture! At each session, we invite leading architects and designers to share their projects and experiences covering a specific topic, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and chat about matters of interest.
This session presents R-CELLS: ‘A Lifetime well-living home’ which is a sustainable solar house prototype developed by TEAM Tianjin University plus, a multi-disciplinary team with university-enterprise partnership led by Yang Wei, Ren Jun, Miao Zhantang and several other professors. As a finalist of the 3rd Solar Decathlon China Competition, the building has recently been completed in Desheng Village, Zhangjiakou on September 14th, 2021. The project integrates the wisdom of traditional Chinese architecture with contemporary green building solutions, renewable energy and smart control technologies, and creates a positive energy, full recycling, and zero emission prototype that incorporates ingenious design concepts with advanced construction technologies.
Sustainable development is said to be one of the greatest challenges to the present and future of the built environment. Wood has long been considered a sustainable resource, with many positive characteristics, including low carbon impact, renewable, low embodied energy and sustainability. The presentation will cover the design, green building principles, zero carbon emission prototype, and detail and construction– all of which tie into sustainable building. The featured project will showcase the use of wood in architecture with innovative design ideas to create sustainable architecture!
All AIA members + all architecture/ engineering/ construction professionals are welcome!
