In order to response to the global warming and achieve national carbon reduction goals, our team which led by Prof. Yan Fengying is guided by the concept of ecological civilization and uses spatial planning as a means to undertake the national key research and development project "Research on County Town Planning Technology Based on Carbon Control System", and the National Natural Science Foundation project "Research on Theory and Method of County Low Carbon Spatial Planning Based on Carbon Balance Zoning", serving hot research areas such as low-carbon cities, ecological cities, and smart cities. The organization has initiated and developed technical standards and guidelines such as the "Low Carbon Configuration Standards for County Urban Public Service Facilities", and applied for multiple invention patents and software copyrights, providing a technical foundation and support for the independent innovation of low-carbon planning technologies and methods in China.
In terms of promoting regional low-carbon development, relying on national key research and development projects, four typical counties including the Loess Plateau (Qingcheng County, Gansu Province), Southwest Mountain Area (Jintang County, Sichuan Province), Jiangnan Water Town (Changxing, Zhejiang Province) and North China Plain (Wu'an, Hebei Province) were selected to carry out low-carbon planning project demonstration. We have achieved full coverage of the main planning types - national spatial planning, regulatory detailed planning, village planning, strategic planning - and typical carbon emission areas across the country.
