From 3 September 2023 to 8 September 2023, Professor Wang Lijun, Head of the Department of Architecture at the School of Architecture in Tianjin University, led three doctoral students from the same department to attend the 30th International Seminar of Urban Form (ISUF2023) conference in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.

The International Seminar of Urban Form (ISUF) is a prestigious conference that has been held annually since 1994. It brings together scholars from a variety of disciplines including architecture, urban planning, sociology, geography and history. The Forum has established the University of Birmingham in UK, as its permanent conference host and publishes the academic journal ‘Urban Morphology’s inception marked the beginning of a new era of collaboration and knowledge exchange in the study of urban morphology across disciplines, regions, and languages. The ISUF meetings have been held in countries throughout Europe, Asia, North America, Latin America, Oceania, and other parts of the world, with more than 600 members from individuals and organizations around the globe. This is the 30th meeting of the Forum and the first one to take place in the Balkans.
Cities and themes over 30 years of the Conference

Over the years, the conference has focused on themes related to the theoretical fusion of urban morphology and architectural typology, and this ISUF conference includes five themes: planning and landscape, urban public space, architectural culture and history, etc. The Forum provides an important platform for academic exchange and sharing of ideas among researchers and practitioners in related fields from more than 40 countries on five continents. It is recognized as one of the most important international conferences by Tianjin University. The three PhD students from the School of Architecture presented papers on the sub-forums "Urban Planning", "Urban Design" and "History and Future of Urban Form".

By participating in this international conference, teachers and students from the School of Architecture of Tianjin University had fruitful academic exchanges with professionals and scholars. Their presentations received recognition of other scholars in the international arena, and established good relationships with them. Such experience is beneficial for future connection with the international community and cultivate high-level and high-quality students at Tianjin University.
