Tianjin University
Organized by School of Architecture, Tianjin University
Co-organized by Tianjin University Research Institute of Architectural Design & Urban Planning Co.Ltd.
You are cordially invited to submit abstracts to the 17th IACP Conference.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, urban and rural ecosystems’ resilience and safety, as well as the move toward more sustainable development, have all received global recognition. To achieve future high-quality development, it becomes an important research agenda to learn from international experiences, understand the profound changes in China’s development environment, and enhance the foresight, guidance, and systematization of urban and rural planning practices.
In 2016, the third United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) advocated changing the urbanization model to address new challenges, such as climate change and informal, unsafe, and unsustainable urban development. The UN-Habitat’s World Cities Report 2022 further underlined safe and resilient development, prioritizing public health, and proposed to enhance the adaptation and resilience of urban and rural environments to shocks and pressures to move towards a more sustainable future. In 2021, China’s 14th Five-Year Plan and the 2035 Long-Term Goals Outline also proposed a shift to the development of super mega-cities while taking into account the multi-faceted needs of the economy, society, culture, ecology, and safety
and strengthening risk management in urban governance to promote high-quality sustainable development. Recent spatial planning in various regions has also proposed multiple measures to increase urban safety, resilience, and sustainability.
The core theme of this annual conference is ‘safe, resilient, and sustainable urban and rural development’. We sincerely invite scholars, planners, engineers, and government administrators from China and around the world to participate in academic exchanges, widely discuss planning theories and practical issues that help drive high-quality urban and rural development in the new era, and share planning research and practices in various fields such as urban economy, culture, society, and ecology. The conference aims to discuss advanced concepts and successful experiences in urban and rural planning and governance in the context of new development through keynote and parallel sessions on new planning concepts, technologies, and issues related to safety, resilience, and sustainable development.
