Zhu Lei is the associate professor in the institute of architectural history and theory, School of Architecture, Tianjin University. She also is the member of the Forbidden City academic society of China.
Zhu received Ph.D. and M. Arch and B.S degree from Tianjin university. She had worked as an architect manager in ECADI, the largest architecture design institute in China, before she studied for the Ph.D.
Her research interests mainly focus on the design theory and heritage preservation of Royal Architecture of Qing Dynasty and Jiangnan Gardens. She has presided 7 national and municipal programs like: Comprehensive Research in Royal Temporary Palaces of Qing Dynasty which is Youth Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and four projects in Wuxi about the Application for World Heritage. Besides that, she also participated in four national foundation projects and six ancient architecture research projects. Zhu has published more than fifteen papers in various architectural academic journals and been invited to give public lectures for four times. She also gave congress presentations in four international conferences. As an architect, she won the annual best architect of her department in ECADI. The project which her participated in got the Grand Medal of the National Habitat Classic Scheme Competition. As a teacher Zhu instructed students to win the 1st prize of the second Beijing Construction Festival 2017. As a scholar she belongs in a top team in Chinese architect historical research led by prof. Wang Qiheng. The main project of the team placed second in the Science and Technology Progress Award which by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, and The whole team was invited by China Central Television to show their academic achievements.
