Hu Yike is an Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at Tianjin University, in charge of supervising master students of landscape architecture and architecture and also doctoral students of landscape architecture. He is currently the Director of the Digital Construction Laboratory of Tianjin University’s School of Architecture.
While operating at the intersection of landscape, architecture and urban-rural planning, Dr. Hu also works at the following organizations: Vice-Director of the Planning Information Management Committee of Tianjin Urban Planning Institute; member of the expert group of Tianjin Planning Bureau; visiting scholar at IIAS (Leiden University, Netherlands, 2015); liaison of UKNA Asia Knowledge Network (EU Project); editorial board member of Landscape Design; expert in examination and approval of manuscripts for the publications Chinese Landscape Architecture and Landscape Architecture; and member of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture.
Up until now, he has won more than 30 awards, supervised students who won 32 awards in international competitions and more than 10 in national competitions, and published more than 10 core papers as first author. His recent research projects aim to clarify the composition of urban public space systems, import computer vision technology into the study of urban public space, analyze modes of crowd behavior, relate space with human behaviors, form prototypes of shape, and promote precision and intelligent design of urban public spaces. He also studied the renewal of rural public spaces, by exploring these initiatives through the Landscape Planning and Design Project of Lou Na Square and the International University Construction Festival.
The main contents of his teaching courses include: professional skills for landscape architects, protection planning of scenic spots; a design studio and experimental class in the second grade of architecture; and the teaching of landscape architecture undergraduates. He is currently undertaking two projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and presides over three other projects dealing with horizontal issues in urban development. Through a partnership with UED magazine, it has come to include research-based learning, leading the design team of Tianjin University at the International University Construction Festival to participate in the International University Construction Competition several times, a number of which were met with success.
Hu Yike holds a degree in Architecture from Dalian University of Technology, a Master degree in Architectural Design and Theory from the same institution, and a Doctor degree in Landscape Architecture from Tsinghua University. At the same time, he is a senior landscape planner recognized by the International Association of Landscape Planning and Design.
