Zhang Long is an Associate Professor of the Department of Architectural History and Theory at School of Architecture, Tianjin University, in which he is also the Deputy Director of the Department of Social Sciences, and temporarily serves as an Associate Director in Office of Liberal Arts. At the same time, he is the membership of China Association for the Protection of Monuments and Sites, and Forbidden City Society of China. He is teaching Architecture Design, Architectural History of Ancient China, and Surveying and Mapping Practice of Ancient Architecture.
His main research areas are royal garden of Qing Dynasty, architecture archives of Yangshi Lei, and conservation and monitoring of architecture heritage. Heretofore, he was in charge of 2 projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 of Tianjin Research Program of Application Foundation and Advanced Technology, 1 of Tianjin Social Science Key Project, 3 of Independent Innovation Foundation of Tianjin University, and participated in 1 Major, 2 General, 2 Youth, and 3 Ministry/ Provincial Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Led by him were nearly 20 projects about conservation and monitoring of heritage, involving survey, protection planning, renovation design, monitoring, and exhibition. As the first/correspondent author, he published 10 core theses and more than 30 papers in general journals and conferences, also, he published 2 monographs. He has ever been invited to make academic reports for more than 10 times by Summer Palace, Tsinghua University, and Garden Museum. He won the Second Prize of China Excellent Survey and Design, the First and Second Prize of Tianjin Excellent Survey and Design, the First Prize of Tianjin Society and Science Excellent Results First Prize, and the Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of Ministry of Education. He was selected in the first plan of Peiyang Scholar·Young Scholar.
Zhang Long received the Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Architecture and the Doctor of Engineering from Tianjin University, and was appointed to the Lecturer upon graduation. He served temporarily for the Government of Liaocheng, Shandong Province from 2015 to 2016 as an Associate Secretary general. He visited the School of Design, University of Pennsylvania in 2016 as a 1-year visiting scholar.
