Paolo Vincenzo Genovese is a Professor, Master’s and Ph.D. tutor at the School of Architecture, Tianjin University in China. He is a qualified architect and Ph.D. holder in “Architectural and Environmental Technology” who graduated with a top score from the Polytechnic University in Milan. Paolo is currently the Deputy Director of the International Exchange Office as well as the director of the Lab of Bionic Architecture and Research Planning Centre of Tianjin University. As an academic he has published seven monographs, fifteen collaborated books, more than six-hundred papers as well as a novel. As a teacher, Paolo is a tutor to more than 70 Ph.D. and Master dissertations students in China and abroad. Several of his students have won prizes in dissertation and design competitions. His team comprises of international students from more than 15 different countries. In his time at Tianjin University he has created and forged several cooperation agreements between the School of Architecture and other faculties around the globe. This global cooperation has seen Paolo author the Double Degree course in Master of architecture between the School of Architecture in Tianjin University and Department of Architecture of Sassari University in Italy, which he is also responsible for. He is also the advisory consultant of the China-Arab International Joint Laboratory on Featured Resources and Environmental Governance in Arid Regions in Yinchuan University, China. His study, research and expertise focus on the design of architecture, bionic approach in the architecture planning, urban planning, restoration of traditional buildings and villages, history of modern architecture, metaphysics of ancient architecture, sustainable architecture, Eco-villages, Data-Driven Analysis and Data-Driven Design. As a Foreign Expert in the field of Eco-Villages; he is actively involved in the planning for poor villages in China. This field of expertise has seen him win two Chinese National Foundation awards and other scholarships to finance research in the area of Sustainable Districts.
Paolo is a registered architect in Italy and has also worked as a chief and consultant architect in several Chinese and International companies in the field of investigation and policy making as well as various projects. Among his skills and professions, Paolo is also professional photographer.
As an esteemed professional, Paolo has enjoyed numerous professional successes such as winning the “Haihe Friendship Award” in 2010 for his cultural contribution in China. In 2019 he was invited to be a special expert of the Foreign Expert Advisory Committee of the Beijing Global Talent Exchange Association, becoming the Communication Ambassador for Global Talents. He is a member of the prestigious Aspen Institute in Italy and is actively involved in international conferences as a keynote speaker. He has also organized several workshops in China and various countries on the investigation of tangible and intangible heritage and self-construction buildings. He is also an advocate of free software, GNU/Linux.
